2-Ethylhexanoic Acid is a colorless and slightly smelly liquid. Flammable, slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water and ether, slightly soluble in ethanol. It can be used as an intermediate in paint and paint drying agents, as a modifier for alkyd resins, to produce peroxides as catalysts for polymerization reactions such as PE, as well as for lubricating oil esters and PVC stabilizers.
Usage :
1. It is mainly used as an intermediate of paint driers, and can be combined with a variety of metals to
form metal salts of isooctanoate;
2. It can be used as accelerator for unsaturated polyester resin, modifier for alkyd resin, catalyst for
polymerization reaction (such as PE) by producing peroxide, and stabilizer for lubricating oil ester and
PVC.
3. It can also be used in the auxiliary field of chemicals to make metal lubricant and oil auxiliary agent.
It is also a good thickener, a raw material for carbenicillin.
